Schools Picnic

The two schools involved in Merrydale Magic got together on Thursday 10th July for a picnic in Merrydale. They worked with a local storyteller to create their own Merrydale stories; explored the hillsides finding lots of wildlife and drew their own magical Merrydale creatures. We all shared a picnic in our pop-up tent village and got to know each other and this special place a little better.

DVD Launch

The Merrydale Magic DVD was launched at the second Community Day on Saturday 28th June.

Again we were amazed by the number of people who came along, more than 70, including families and older folk. We showed the DVD which includes original 1950s film of Merrydale, shot by Lucy Fairbank. We are very grateful to Ian Baxter, custodian of the Lucy Fairbank films, for permission to use this footage. Also featured are children out and about in Merrydale enjoying the flowers, the stream and the freedom to run about; children talking about their artwork and older folk talking about how they enjoyed Merrydale in their childhood.
You can see clips from the DVD on the website.

First Community Day 2nd February 2008

On a very snowy saturday in February Merrydale Magic held its first community day. We wanted to show local people what we had been doing, share memories and make new contacts. We were delighted by the turnout over 60 people came along, young and old, to hear about the project, tell us their stories and enjoy a fabulous tea made by the ladies of Shred.
