The project is all about engaging people in the ongoing conservation of Merrydale so that folk will enjoy it and care for it in the future. Using this site you too can play a part by submitting your photos of Merrydale to our Flickr group and by being informed of future events through our mailing list and news section.

Merrydale Magic is distinctly comprised of two strands of activity. Arts and Community related work and
Conservation and environmental education, the project timeline below details some of these activities.

 

Project Timeline

Planning for Merrydale Magic started in summer 2006, workshops in schools started in spring 2007 and will continue throughout the project. Community events started in summer 2007 and our finale will take place in summer 2008.

March 2007 a photography workshop, run by Nicki Taylor resulted in some fabulous photos with heartfelt text added, displayed at Community Spirit

Beautiful banners of Merrydale’s magical creatures have been created by children in both schools

Learning how to collect and record stories with Kim Strickson and Carmen Taylor from Kirklees Museums and Galleries

Ken George of KGB Productions started filming workshops with schools to be included in the final DVD

Environmental education activities, led by Simon Pedley included journey sticks and messy maps

Photographic exhibition showing the work of both schools in photography and textiles

Community events included a session with Slaithwaite Good Companions, who came up with lots of memories of Merrydale
